A curated series of movies with Jewish Themes facilitated by Steven Gleit. The first movie is Women's Balcony. Please watch it beforehand and come to the discussion with your popcorn and your questions! 

The premise of the Women’s Balcony is simple: set in Jerusalem, a Sephardic synagogue’s upper mezzanine floor - the women’s seating section in this synagogue - collapses and the synagogue undertakes the job to repair the collapse. Upon commencement of the renovation, several of the synagogue women are upset at their new seating arrangement and decide to take control, themselves, of the rebuilding of the original upper mezzanine women’s seating. The heart of the movie is the resistance to the actions proposed and taken by these women and, in turn, the women’s response to this resistance. Click here for a review of the movie and click here for an interview with the director.
