Social Action
Social Action
CSAIR works to live our value of Tikkun Olam, repair the world, both in our community and across Riverdale, the Bronx, and New York as a whole.
Here are ways to take action with CSAIR:
-
CSAIR Green Team: CSAIR’s environmental works to make our synagogue greener, from our physical building (like the solar panels on the roof of the Hebrew School), to our practices (like our compostable kiddushes) and taking action at large. To get involved, contact Ace Leveen.
-
Chesed Meals-Meals for Those in Need: The Chesed Committee helps people in the community who are sick, sitting shiva, or who have had a new baby by providing meals. Please get in touch with Beth Levine if you want to join the list of people who volunteer to prepare or send meals. Please contact Rabbi Katie Greenberg if you could use help with meals.
-
CSAIR Fights Hunger: CSAIR Fights Hunger fights food insecurity within the larger Riverdale community; working in teams we rescue and repackage leftovers from kiddushes, simchas, and other synagogue events and bring them to the four community refrigerators around Riverdale known as “Friendly Fridges”. The group also coordinates periodic food drives, often tied to the Jewish calendar. Together with the Friendly Fridges, we are a mutual aid project that enables surplus food to be provided to those in need within the community. As CSAIR volunteers, this activity feeds our souls. Please come join us. For more information contact Carole Gothelf and Robin Weinstein.
-
Thanksgiving Food Drive: CSAIR is proud to partner with Creston Avenue Baptist Church every year to provide Thanksgiving meals for over 700 members of our community.
-
Bikkur Cholim: Visiting the ill: Interested in supporting members of our community as they heal? Our Bikkur Cholim network connects with members in need of visits, whether in person or on the phone. If you’re interested in joining, please contact Rabbi Greenberg
-
Hevrat Menahem Avelim: Comforting mourners: Interested in helping with Shiva, from making a minyan to transporting materials? Contact Rabbi Greenberg.
