Marsha Dane Stern Hebrew School

Seder with ChildrenOur award-winning Hebrew School serves children from pre-school through 8th grade. It meets twice a week, on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Caring and creative, the curriculum includes Bible, Jewish history, Hebrew language and prayer, Shabbat, and holidays. Music, drama, and art are integrated into all classes. Special programs include trips, guest speakers, a Holocaust oral history program, and an artist-in-residence program. Jewish ethics and values are stressed. Parents are important active participants and leaders in our school.

The Hebrew School staff and the Parent Association view the integration of Hebrew School and synagogue experiences into a child’s religious learning as an essential component of our children’s education. We begin Sunday mornings with Family Tefillot in our Main Sanctuary. Song, prayer and family torah study are the springboard for discussion of challenging theological and ideological issues in the classroom and at home.

Our Special Needs program offers children with special needs appropriate assistance in the form of individualized tutoring, mentoring, and classroom shadows. Our program offers our children with behavioral, educational, or attentional difficulties extra support to succeed in our Hebrew School. We understand that children with special needs in supplemental Jewish education programs are confronted with the demands of learning a second language, managing frequent transitions, organizing materials for many classes, and coping with an extended day. With proper accommodations and support, our goal is to include these children in Jewish education, which may lead to bar or bat mitzvah training.
